In 1889 Randi Pedersdatter Holtseteren, aged 28, emigrated from Gausdal, Norway to Clark County, Wisconsin. She was one of 900 000 Norwegians who left their country in search of a new life in America. "An Immigrant Story" is the true account of Randi's own personal experiences, based on the letters she wrote home. Nevertheless her story is far from unique. Many Norwegian immigrants to America could tell similar stories. Leaving Norway, crossing the Atlantic, arrival in a new world and starting a new life were all phases in the common immigrant experience. This interactive presentation lets you uncover Randi's story for yourself. Read her letters or study the story of her life. Or would you like to find out about the research behind the story? Reveal photographs or relevant facts and information as you go along. Navigate by using the named scraps of paper on the desktop, links found in the text and the back-button of your browser. Large images and documents will open in separate windows. Remember to close them after viewing. The logo at top left always takes you home. Enjoy yourself! |
