Randi mentions the following names of neighbors and friends in Curtiss:

Peter Bekken, married to Marte. In 1889 they had children: Gustav, Georg and Anna (b. December 1888).
Arne Olsen. A farmer who had come in 1872. He was a wealthy man with several oxen. He also had a son (b. around 1874) who helped Randi with the cows after her son Axel was born.
Mr. Dalberg, a Swedish born tax official with a German wife who could speak Norwegian.
Paulman is a German farmer who in May 1889 sold Randi and Mathias a three year old cow and her young bull-calf for $30.
Jean/Jane Soerlien. A Swedish farmer married to Kari Soerlien (b. around 1849). The Soerlien farm was next to Randi and Mathias' farm. They have several children. It is said that Mathias used to stand on the road on May 17th (Norway's Constitution Day) every year and sing Norwegian songs to his Swedish neighbor.
Fedler was a German farmer.
Paulsen was Danish. Possibly Peder Poulson b. 1867, d. August 21st 1899.
Oluf Thompson was a Norwegian farmer who married Mathias' sister Sina. B. around 1849, d. December 4th 1902. Trustee for the local church.
Ole Henrum. A Norwegian farmer from Ringebu. B. May 1847, d. March 1903.
The three Botterud farmers came from Musdal or Tretten in Norway.
A Norwegian shopkeeper and wife, both from Voss, invited Randi and the other travellers in on their first arrival in Curtiss.
